Dr. Shuhan He
Primary Investigator
Dr. Shuhan He, MD, is the Program Director of the Master of Science in Healthcare Data Analytics (MSDA) and an Assistant Professor in Emergency Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. His research is dedicated to revolutionizing healthcare by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced technologies to address critical challenges in medicine.
A significant focus of his work involves the development of AI-driven medical informatics tools designed to improve patient outcomes, enhance clinical decision-making, and optimize workflows in healthcare systems. Dr. He explores how machine learning algorithms and predictive analytics can be applied to process vast amounts of medical data, identify patterns, and support early diagnosis and precision medicine. His research also examines the ethical and practical implications of implementing AI in clinical settings, ensuring these technologies enhance care delivery without compromising patient safety.
Dr. He’s academic pursuits prioritize evaluating the effectiveness of AI-powered information systems and understanding the global impact of these innovations on healthcare quality and accessibility. Growing up in a neighborhood surrounding a medical school where my father worked, I was drawn to the field of medicine from an early age. Those cherished moments accompanying him to the school shaped my path and passion for healthcare. Beyond my dedication to medicine, I am fond of traveling, exploring cultural diversity, and meeting new people. I love to sing folk music (Qawwali) and play the strategic game of chess.
Happily married, living with our lovely cat! A semiprofessional rock climber enjoying my free time at the gym or crag. I am enthusiastic about advanced data science utilization in medical science and pursuing my career in this field.
First-generation, Latino college graduate and current fellow physician with a passion for bias mitigation in clinical decision support tools, AI policy that advocates for marginalized patient populations, translational data science, value-based care, user-centered design, and improving access to care for underserved patient populations.
Undergraduate Students
I am an ophthalmology resident at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. I engage in clinical informatics research activities with a concentration in image data analysis and machine learning solutions in collaboration with institutions ranging from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, the National Institutes of Health, and the Vision Center of Excellence
I am an undergraduate student at Harvard University studying Neuroscience with a Secondary in Global Health and Health Policy. I am passionate about the intersection of medicine and media as well as shaping future health policy efforts.
I find the application of software engineering principles in medicine to hold great potential. My goal is to build tools that streamline workflows within the current healthcare system to reduce physician burnout and allow them to spend more time helping patients.

A mathematician by training, an educator by career, and an avid interdisciplinary researcher, I have been in academia for over 20 years and have worked on 3 continents. My collaborations span a wide range of topics in interdisciplinary mathematical areas, from mathematical physics to neuroscience to economics to medicine.
